Loads were also drastically slower than the MacBook Pro, taking roughly 22 seconds to complete. More importantly, since the MacBook Air's unibody design isn't designed to deal with the heat associated with GPU-straining games, the system seemed to have a hard time keeping cool and framerate performance consistent during longer usage sessions. At high settings, on the other hand, framerates would reach 30 frames-per-second, but plummet to 14 frames-per-second. Bumping the textures and shaders up to medium maintains an average framerate performance of 30 frames-per-second, but can dip as low as 23 frames-per-second. Outputting to the native resolution of 1366x768, and set at the game's lowest quality settings, the MacBook Air could handle Portal 2 at a minimum of 30 frames-per-second, and reached as high as 40 frames-per-second.

The model we tested was the 11-inch 1.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with an integrated NVIDIA GeForce 320M, and 2GBs of RAM.
PORTAL AND PORTAL 2 ON MAC PRO
Whereas the MacBook Pro is designed to be Apple's notebook powerhouse, the MacBook Air is designed for portability, so we were naturally curious to see how it would handle 3D graphics. MacBook+Air CPU: 1.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo | GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 320M | RAM: 2GBs As far as game loads are concerned, the MacBook Pro would load saves in about 8 or 9 seconds. Of course, gameplay performance only continues to get faster and smoother as settings are lowered. As you might suspect, the MacBook Pro was actually the highest performer of the group, yielding over 60 frames-per-second with aliasing, filtering, shader details, effect details, and model texture detail levels maxed out.

The model we tested was the 15-inch 2.2GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 system, which sports 4GBs of memory and a discrete AMD Radeon 6750M graphics processor and retails for $2,199. Of the three machines, our MacBook Pro is the most recent, having been released this past February. MacBook+Pro CPU: 2.2Ghz Intel Core i7 | GPU: AMD Radeon 6750 | RAM: 4GBs
PORTAL AND PORTAL 2 ON MAC FOR MAC
So, how will the game fair for Mac lovers? Well, it depends on the system you're using and how old it is, but we decided to test it out on three different machines a MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and an iMac.
